Our estate cabernet sauvignon is a Bordeaux-style blend of approximately 75% cabernet, 22% merlot, and 3% cabernet franc, although the cepage varies by vintage. This high mountain, cool coastal vineyard is an unusual area for California cabernet sauvignon. Refreshing acidity and moderate alcohol reflect this uniqueness. Fine integrated tannins buttress typical flavors of red currant, blackberry, and earth. Cellaring between ten to fifteen years in recommended.
"Very ripe, with candied apple cinnamon cherry aromas and flavors that evolve into an earthier presence on the palate, with dried currant and spicy leathery notes. Drink now through 2012. 3,500 cases made. 89 points" Wine Spectator
More than any of the other Vintners Blends, this one over-delivers for its price — and we think you’ll agree that that’s saying something. Lately a lot of well-made Cabernet has been available on the inter-winery market, but for all the varietal’s desirability and prestige, Joel thinks the Cabernet Sauvignon grape has a select range of attractive flavors. He tends towards currants and cassis in putting together this version, which is dark and rich with background notes of black cherry and green pepper.
"A superrich, polished, multifaceted wine, with layers of ripe currant, blackberry, herb, cedar, sage and a touch of pencil lead. Deep and concentrated, the flavors pour through on the finish, and while the tannins are chewy, the texture is supple. Best from 2005 through 2012. 94 points" Wine Spectator
